Cronulla halfback Brett Kimmorley said he was “shocked” by media rumors inferring that he would be traded off to another club.
Why Kimmorley is the one to be left in the dark of such a major decision highlights the changing nature of the game, not to mention the blatant disregard to the importance of communication between players and management.
In this day and age that is absolutely pathetic.
"Rumours don't just start. I think you just have to be understanding that anything can happen.
"Somethings in the pipeline you would imagine,” said Kimmorley.
Kimmorley, who said he was hoping to see his career out with the Sharks clearly deserves better.
Even if what is being published is just pure rumour in its rawest form, the Sharks halfback does have a right to be contacted by his manager and club and reassured, surely? Or is common curteousy a pre-historic memory?
If anything, Kimmorley should be the first to know of his imminent future with the club, his ignorance on the issue no doubt humiliating.
It is a disgrace and absolutely disgusting that one should hear about such career changing decisions from the media first.
That said, the media has played its part as the devils advocate in recent weeks, especially in the lead up to test selections. (Remember Cooper Cronk, yeah he wasn't really mentioned but just in case you weren't aware - he did play halfback for last years test and should have been considered along with Prince for selection if Thurston remained injured).
The media, as usual, fails to cover stories from a breath of angles, parroting reguritated information that has been ‘borrowed’ from one forum to the next, thus failing to illustrate to readers, supporters and even players on what really is going on.
A lot of information the media print may really just be rumors and nothing more.
More often than not, this takes away from the game, such as the misplaced focus on Nathan Brown not seeing the end of his contract , instead of the Dragons impressive ANZAC Day win against the Roosters.
Amongst the swarm of cloned stories, key stories are being missed, like Storm lock Dallas Johnson inking his future to remain with Melbourne - a major signing for the Victorian club. It was however briefly reported in the Herald Sun and Storm’s own segment on radio station (SEN1116am) that evening.
Back to Kimmorley’s situation...
Maybe if he was lucky, he would get a brief SMS regardng the vadility of these so called rumors by his club and manager.
If we were lucky, the media would publish a range of articles based on truth, creativity AND research instead of repetive cloned rubbish.
