Storm Dazzle Fans in 28-8 Win.
April 5th 2008 12:28
The Melbourne Storm put on a breath stopping performance at Olympic Park Stadium, bringing the Broncos winning streak to a dramatic halt.
Despite Inglis’ rusty performance, the rest of the team executed every play of the ball with artistic precision, destroying any hope Brisbane had on winning their fourth consecutive game early on into the match.
An impressive pass from Billy Slater set winger, Anthony Quinn to score a crowd erupting try.
Melbourne then extended their lead 6-0, with a successful conversion by Cameron Smith.
Shortly after, the crowd waited with baited breath as Israel Folau climbed high into the air over Denan Kemp before capturing Cronk’s high kick and slamming it down over the try line.
If fans held any animosity towards Folau regarding his decision to side with the devil, it was instantly forgotten.
With the home side leading 12-0, Brisbane’s Reese Robinson was able to make a frantic dash over the try line.
Brisbane were unable to convert as a chorus of boos echoed around the stadium by Storm fans old and young, no matter where they were seated.
The score line stretched to 18-4 at halftime, with Hoffman and Smith polishing off the first half, scoring a try and conversion respectively.
With only a depleted Broncos line up to work with, Darren Lockyer was able to orchestrate a bit of magic, allowing Brisbane to close in on the winning side in the second half. However it was not to be, as Ennis failed to convert.
Towards the dying moments of the game, a burst of energy and flair saw Storm’s Quinn dive over the try line twice in short successions, bringing the score to a triumphant 28-8 and earning him a hat trick.
Referee Jared Maxwell’s report on Adam Blair was the only incident that soured the Premiers much savoured victory as they made a lap of honour around the stadium.
