Melbourne Storm made a dramatic comeback showing true strength and courage during Monday nights clash against the Raiders.
The depleted Raiders line missing skipper, Alan Tongue and hooker, Lincoln Withers had the reigning premiers by the collar during the first half of the game, 16-4.
The Storm struggled to contain an enthusiastic Raiders side in front of 15,550 fans at Canberra Stadium; finding momentum only after a ‘colorful spray’ by Bellamy during halftime coaxed them into the team known for their spectacular premiership winning form.
A series of penalties in Melbourne’s favor during the second half saw the Storm construct their grueling comeback.
With 15minutes of the game remaining, Melbourne had managed to even the score, thanks to an inside ball from Cooper Cronk actually finding its target- the illustrious fullback, Billy Slater.
Cronk then put Melbourne in the lead for the first time, kicking a field goal in the remaining 10minutes of the game.
Moment’s later, teenage giant, Israel Folau sealed the deal for the visiting side with a one-handed grab under a high ball then scoring his third try for the season and bringing the final score to 23-16.
STORM 23 (Tries: Chambers, Turner, Slater, Folau; Goals: C. Smith 3; Field Goal: Cronk) def. RAIDERS 16 (Tries: Best, Plum, Purtell; Goals: Carney 2) at Canberra Stadium
